Detector(s) used
Radio Shack Discovery 1000
Well, I finally made it out today for the first time with my 11 year old Radio Shack detector (I really need a new one) a total of about 4 hours in a couple different places. Maybe I didn't spend enough time but i found nothing but nails and bullet casings at either place. I didn't really expect to find much at either place mainly because I knew my skill level with a detector, but I had fun none the less. Next time I am going to go to an old pond and go around it and see what I find. Wish me luck on my next hunts. Also, any advice or hints would be awesome.

I would start in your own back yard. Make sure you have read all the directions carefully. The easiest place to go is to a playground that has the wood chips. You also may want to bury a few different coins in your yard and practice finding and recovering them. Don't give up!

I already went through my back yard right after I moved in. Being new construction, I went through and got all the nails and building supplies out so I would not blow the tire on my mower. I found a couple of items that looked like something you would find on a farm. All the land around me is either cow pastures or chicken farms. May explaine why I found what looks like farm stuff. I may bury a few coins and go back to find them to see what I need to be looking for. All my detector has is two dials, one is sensitivity and the other is a Disc/Tone control. There is also a switch for setting the detector to Disc, tone, or all metal. I am still figuring it out, started to make a little sense today though.

Learn what your detector's telling you and don't give up! Over more than 30 years, I've seen the experienced hunter with his inexpensive model dig rings around the beginner with a high dollar machine. Learn it, take it to some parks or beaches or relic sites and knock 'em out!

Best of luck!
