Tried a new spot today with my new coil. I really wasn't that impressed. I had a harder time locking in on signals than with the stock coil. I would hear the signal, and then it would take me multiple swings to actually find the target. It also seemed to false just as much as the stock coil. I will say that the pinpointing was dead on. I'll keep working with it, and it is very possible that the new site is just a dificult place to detect.
The hunt was very short, and all I heard was clad quarters. I dug a buck or two worth, and then decided to wait for a last signal. I passed up a bunch until I heard the zinc penny sound down about 6" according the depth meter. I was confident this would be an indian. I was really happy when I saw 1865. Coin is in excellent condition with very little wear, and a great green patina.

Jon Dickinson.

that is one sweet IH!!! congrats.

Civil War year!!! GREAT!
Bet that eases the cost of the coil just a little!

GREAT find, Point!! :o

That Indian is in super nice shape!

Wow, that is a beaut of an Indian Head!

Today, I found an 1897 IH using my SE with Pro coil.
The coin was down 5 inches or so but sounded like a piece of copper wire.
I'm really surprised you are having difficulty adapting to your new coil as I find mine rock solid. I do utilize SEMI AUTO SENS set at 32.

Good job!

awesome IH, and great shape too!

Thanks for the comments. That nice green color is my favorite to see in a hole(except for obvious exceptions).
GRB- This was my first hunt at a new spot. It is possible that the ground doesn't want to cooperate. I started the machine at 30 sens and auto ground balance, but it was going nutz in several different places. Noise canceled and that didn't help. I turned down the sensitivity to 25 before I could go on. On the ends of swings, I was getting that single high beep that you know is a false signal way too often. I'll keep at it, and should be able to adjust. This was my first hunt with the coil, and I have supreme confidence in Minelab. Pulling a nice 1865 indian should keep anyone away from complaining......

Pretty! Pretty! Pretty! CONGRATULATIONS!!! -Noodle

Jon, that really is a nice coin. Congrats. i just got us a new detecting permission. I have got 3 or 4 pre 1870 spots to check. Give me a shout.

Glad to see those kind of coins in Ohio. What kind of area was it?

That is a sweet 1865!!!

Yep, that is in great condition. Is it one of those "fattys"? Is it thicker than a normal IH? The one I found with you, 1863, is made of nickel and tin and it is as thick as a nickel.

I'm very surprised too, Jon!! I'm am so pleased with this new coil's ability to find the deep targets, especially the ones close to trash targets. 15 for 15 consecutive hunts striking silver for me with this coil!!

Don't worry about having to keep your sensitivity up so high....I've been hunting at 23, manual, and still getting down to 10" on coins. I've tested higher sensitivities on real deep targets many times before. There was no difference in my ability to hear a deep target when I was at 30 sens. or whether I was at 23. There was only a dropoff of signal when I got down to below 19. Usually, a lot of falsing in an area means high ground minerals. Don't be afraid to lower the sens. to stop the falsing. Better to do that than to miss targets because of all the falsing.

Nice job on your Injun!!

Good job! I got an 1865 earlier this year also but yours has a little better detail on it. I too am just starting to use my SE Pro and like it a lot. Got a 1927 Buffalo nickel today right out of the gate! A friend hunting with me with his SE nailed a bunch of wheats at good depths. These machines are for real!

I have the same problem with false signals at times too with my stock coil, but I am hunting a very trashy area and I think there are just too many targets for the machine to accurately distinguish... still finding clad, and getting out in the first place is the best part!!

That looks awesome!!! Looks like the SE pro coil is doing really well with older coins! Maybe I should get one when I have the money! :)
