First Hunt with the Deus, I'm impressed!



I'm in love. Haha, but seriously this Deus I received today is fantastic-I'm extremely excited, it's going to be a great season.

I only found two coins, a 2011 Canadian quarter, and a 1958 silver dime. The quarter was a surface find, but the silver dime was another story. It's not so much the silver dime that I'm happy about, it's WHERE I found it that really blows my hair back. I was at my go-to spot, where I have detected not a few times, not a bunch of times, but literally over a hundred times. I wandered, no gridding, I just wanted to roam around and let the machine speak to me. It's a whole new language, but was able to discern some sounds. I also dug a bunch of shotgun shells and various other odds and ends. Along with the dime, I also dug a few pieces of "junk" that you'd want your machine to pick up, like little copper pieces. When I dug the dime, I KNEW it was going to be a good target, I think I even said "that's gotta be silver" before I dug. It was amongst trash, and it was very deep!

That's the other thing...I am very impressed with how deep this thing goes. I was digging many targets deeper than 8 inches, you can see in the one pic of digging a shotgun shell it was almost as deep as the pro pointer, I'm not used to that. The ATPro is a great machine, but the Deus is a killer!

Just wait until you learn to tweak this thing. Reactivity and silencer - most important settings IMO!

It was a toss up between the Etrac and the Deus for me...it was a close one! At any rate I'm happy with my purchase. Good luck with the Etrac, I'm sure it'll find you lots of good stuff. I hear you on the anticipation, it's brutal hahaha!

I should add, I stayed in Deus Fast to keep it simple off the start...can't wait until I can get comfortable enough to do some tweaking.

It's strange. I find myself digging 6-10 inches all the time with my ATP. Must be a ground composition thing.

I did find some deep silver with the ATPro don't get me wrong, I found a silver dime 8 or 9 inches deep with it, but it was in clean ground with no other signals to interfere. I owe a lot to my Pro, made many great finds with it! That being said, the Deus seems to dig consistently deeper. Also, the dime I found today had been missed by the Pro a zillion times due to depth and interfering signals.

The way you put it, "a new language" is exactly how I would describe a detector. It is a language, albeit a simple one, but once learned and you become fluent you really learn to understand what the machine says to you. Just think how good you'll do next time at Deus Immersion class! Your final mark should be interesting, by December you'll be teaching the class.

Oh I would certainly hope that with the cost of the Deus it would have some more powerful features! I know I've hit up against the limits of the ATP sometimes. But, it's ok. I bought it to be a general machine. It seems to be pretty good at telling me when there's garbage too. Although it did take me a long time to understand what it was telling me. Just today, that ring I found? It was down about 8 inches and there was one of those round drink foil/seals and an iron bottle cap in the same hole. I got this great mix of signals. Kept changing. But, I was in no hurry and was thinking it was probably a masking problem. The signal was too good to ignore.

Congrats on your new Deus and the finds! Thanks for an "in the field" description of the machine. I'm considering getting one myself when the funds allow. All I hear about them is how great they are in the trashy Iron sites and hunting field sites there is a lot of Iron trash. The E-Trac seems to do fair and I won't know exactly how much better the Deus is until I get one and give it a go. I will be watching your posts and following you as you learn it and show us your finds! Good luck.

Congrats and welcome to the Deus family! Great machine!! I often use the Fast setting, I just lower the iron sound to 1 and change from 3 tone to 5 tone! Good luck!!
