I got word of an 1830's cellar hole near me and decided to check it out. Lots and lots of trash and just wasn't in to digging through the crap today. Left the cellar hole and got on the farm road. And decided to swing the road out

First signal 1" down. With beer cans all around and out pops my first large cent!!!!

It's pretty bad shape. And looks to be 1842 from seeing it in person and unfourtanetly the date doesn't show on pics

Will electrolysis clean it up any more??

This was the afternoon hunt

For the morning I finished off the house built in 1900. And pulled a 1950 Rosie So the last week has been beyond great

This week

1881 and 1884 Indian head
1925 buffalo nickel
14k gold ring
Ivory cameo brooch
1950 Rosie
And 1843 large cent!!!!
Hopefully next week is the same lol

I think your LC look quite solid indeed, with most of the detail there, and because of that I do think it's eye appeal could definitely be improved. As far as clearing out the entire cellar hole, yes no doubt there will be some finds there, there is going to be truck loads to be removed to get down to the original floor. It's up to you, but that is going to be a lot of effort. I guess another point is the owner OK with you doing such a thing.

It is definitely gonna be some work to clear out the foundation. But it was a smaller house. Just not sure how far down was the original floor. I guess I could dig at the base of the stone foundation and where it stops would show the bottom

The owner has no problem with anything I do in the area. He wants me to chase out any kids I see on the property. The woods are nearing a housing project and a lot of kids party in the woods leaving garbage everywhere. The property is about 2 miles by 1 1/2 miles across. So lots of area to search lol

The front of the lc is pretty much gone. And can only see any details when wet and at an angle. But the back has some nice detail left. Any ideas to bring the back out a little better? Not looking to sell just be able to view some detail without licking the coin first haha

I made the mistake of cleaning a 1842 LC about a month ago. Lost all the detail. I told my wife that I should have just let it green and deal with what I had. She suggested planting it in a flower pot and watering it. After a week I pulled it out and wiped it off. The green was back and I had my details back. At least some of the details. I will post a pic when I get home tonight. I was impressed with the results.

woo hoo way to go!

WTG on the LC!

Wonderful digs and thanks for those pics

I went back to the foundation yesterday and was skunked on coins. I spent some time clearing the foundation for future visits but did find a few neat items. This little knock knack seems to be made from solid copper!!!

Also found the old school Gillette razor

On a good note I have to go back to the site tonight but only because I lost my car keys while searching. Nothing like a 5 mike walk back to house to get the spare
