Congrats on the nice silver :hello2:
On common date silvers, I'll rub them with my fingers (after removing any grit),
it takes a while, but you get a little sheen while leaving the 'dug' look intact.
Many more to you

I bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaner to see if it may work.

I forgot about it until you posted...we will see.

Great find. I use just a little baking soda and water mixture, very watery, not to pasty, and rub gently.

Awesome Find..I personally dont like digging my dug coins...only cause i'm a nerd and like to remember exaclty how I found it :laughing9:

Look foward to seeing your next finds

There's nothing like your first!!!!

Essentially here is the cleaning rule - don't!!!!

That rule applies only to key date or very rare coins. Other's, like your merc, are cool finds, but really only worth their melt value so as far as cleaning, have at it!

Baking soda, baking soda/salt, w/aluminum foil and boiling water, electrolysis, and tumbling all good ways to clean dirty coins. With the exception of electrolysis, you really can't hurt them. Electrolysis can melt them, shows up as pitting.
