Hello all!
I've been in MS 3 months and have been looking in our field and neighbors yard relic hunting. So far I've found many rare and unusual rusty iron nails, iron chunks, and assorted other treasures items most likely from the Egyptian expeditions thousands of years ago...
After much frustration a friend and I went to a small city with a history of civil war raids/occupations. A recommended search location of a farm dotted with old house structures ('20s?) supposedly had a skirmish, and we got permission to search. I couldn't get to the pasture because of angry cows but we did spend the day searching. The results of the search were disappointing as I haven't found any civil war/coins/interesting relics in my short detecting history (at all [emoji17]).
The first picture shows the days finds. I found something round that I thought was a button but looking closer after digging thought it was some sort of junk (I keep everything except obvious trash).
I gently brushed it off/washed it a little when I got home but think I may have found my first piece of history... Can someone help me identify it
It looks like two swords on each side, maybe a crossed cannon above, and I'm not sure but maybe a crown below?
I'm going to get some gently clean it with a toothbrush and let it soak in the mineral oil overnight soon if the experts concur. Sorry about the long post but am excited if I found something with real history!!'
