First real silver this year

This is my first real silver this year. (I did find a silver nickle a few weeks ago). I found it at my inlaws across the street. I have been detecting since 97' and never found anything old in their yard. The house was built sometime in the 50's but my wifes family has owned most of this area since it was homesteaded. It give me a new hope to dig more things from their yard. My Mother inlaw always is planting flowers so I generally get a chance to swing the detector over the area.

Here it is my first silver this year. 1902 O Barber dime. I love to find O mint marks because it is not that common although I have found a few around here.

Congrats on the barber dime .Thought war nickles are 50% silver , 50% nickel.

Even if you find something with only 1% silver in it, you still found silver. But I know what you mean. Those silver coins are the best!.

I always thought it was 20% silver but here is the actual composition.

35% silver, 56% copper, 9% manganese

I in no way meant to degrade anyones war nickel finds. I just don't get the same excitement with them. Sorry.

Most nickels are nickel copper. During WWII they needed the nickel for the war effort much the same way as they needed the copper and changed the composition of the penny.
