This year might be a good one. Got my first indian head and now first silver half. ;D Had to pick through a bunch of trash but it was worth it. Clad was mostly my sons. He was at the site for a few hours while I was helping my brother move. He did find a few wheats.

Was searching my mom's 1853 home and found the lead plate thingy down twelve inches. Had to do a mirror image. Can't make out any complete senctances but can read some words and phrases like '"Confederates" , "was wounded", "watchman's gun", "surrender", etc. What is it ?

The football watch fob is a nice piece, but looks like you guys have had a great day overall!!!

Finding a half dollar was one of those challenges for me also having found bust coins and plenty of silver and yet no half dollar....Then while hunting a site which I located and found a number of old coin , out poped a Seated Half 1877 , yes my first half was a beauty....Then I was over the hump....and more were to follow....!!!!congrats on the first and Good luck in the future!!!

It would sure seem to be portion of an article or a story, originally I was thrown since it wasn't reversed but I re-read your post and you mirrored the image before posting which would explain that. The patent date would certainly help date the piece, the back shows the letters "PAT" so I would suspect the other half would answer that. That printing plate can't be the only one at the site, I would be sweeping/re-sweeping that property in every direction, certainly a very interesting find indeed.

Nice looking half. Could be a great year. I still have never found an IH cent.

Nice digs, I bet you kid had fun. I agree I think it has something to do with the printing industry back then. Hopefully you have more grounds to cover and have more great finds. ;)

M,

nice artifact with that plate find.

Once you get it figured out the real hunt begins.

Sure it is for printing, so the hunt begins for the
actual printed matter.

Would check that site out for more pieces.

Again, very nice piece of history. A keeper.

have a good un............
