Nice find. I got my first Merc yesterday.

if you are goin for monetary value, it is a key date...but condition is in the eye of the holder and what they will give........damn good lick tho...................
1921-mercury-dime.png

Type: Mercury Dime
Year: 1921
Mint Mark: No mint mark
Face Value: 0.10 USD
Total Produced: 1,230,000 [?]
Silver Content: 90%
Silver Weight: .0723 oz.
Silver Melt: $2.47
Value: As a rough estimate of this coins value you can assume this coin in poor condition will be valued at somewhere around $65, while one in "perfect" condition can bring $3500. This price does not reference any standard coin grading scale. So when we say poor, we mean worn more than would be expected from a coin in this age, and perfect meaning it looks "perfect" without flaw and possibly even certified. [?].
Additional Info: This is the last year that mercury silver dimes were made before the "break" in 1922. The coins resumed minting in 1923. These coins are 90% silver, and important date in minting history.

Silver is always nice, key date silver is really really nice. However, I notice some scratch marks on the coin. When you dig a coin don't rub it. We have all done that, and most of the time it doesn't make a bit of difference, but it this case the scratches might cost you some money. That said, welcome aboard, this is a fun place to be.

Thanks for the tip not to rub coin . I see the scratches now that you mention it.

Still a $60 coin scratches or otherwise ... very nice key-date find !! Congrats !

Such a temptation not to rub the dirt off a coin to see a date or more detail. The right thing is to just pocket it and just clean properly later. That being said, scratches could just be from the elements, a lawnmower blade, etc.

Congrats on the first... :icon_thumright:

now that you"ve broken the ice I hope there are many more in your future..........hh

congrats!! nice to see silver pop out!

I have used this site but am not sure of thier valuation. Since Im new to all of this, can the prices listed on this site for coins be trusted?
Congats on the find. HH

Nice find! One of the best places to find a reasonable value for a coin is ebay completed auctions. Just look for similar coins that have sold. Of course nothing will be 100% accurate. As noted above the scratches/hairlines will drop the value quite a bit. Still a nice find though.

Be careful, silver is more addicting than crack. Next thing you know you'll be calling out sick to swing for your Au fix :tongue3:

Great work! Very nice coin
