Went in today to dump $1000 in halves, teller told me after she had ran them I was being charged 5%. I had a talk with the head teller and got those charges reversed, then I was told if I pre-roll my coins I will still be charged the 5%. Then I got a call from the main, they told me if I roll them there won't be a charge. Guess I'm rerolling and now I have found my major bank to dump. I can't believe they are trying to charge me to deposit money into my own account. I asked if they would be charging me for currency deposits she said absolutely not, so I asked her what difference there was between currency and coins. She didn't have an answer for that one.

Yes they're being difficult and trying to get rid of you. Yes your hobby costs them time, effort and money. Yes they can close your account if you continue to aggravate them. Yes, I would dump there, but I would not make it overly difficult (large amounts, attitude, etc.)

Re-rolling also gives them more work (they have to unwrapped and bagged loose to ship out), at least at all of my banks.

How do people approach the bag drop-off conversations and volume discussion to align up front?

I have a small bargaining chip on my side, my dad has a very large account with them. And daddy doesn't like it when his boy is being mistreated LOL

Not a very mature move. If you start pulling that card, if they call your bluff, you can lose the account. A former teen member, Mr. Schulz, who tried to go over the heads of the bank/punish them for his perceived complaints, had his and his dad's account closed.

Check the attitude at the door of the bank. Coins are mostly for business customers only. You have to catch the flies with honey, not vinegar. If you want something out of the ordinary, you have to work with them. Cash does NOT equal coins. People want cash, carry cash more, and the bank has fewer steps for processing cash. Coins usually require one or two more parties besides the branch itself. They're heavy, they have to be counted, they have to be picked up, boxed, shipped, etc. Cash is more fluid. The argument that you can have your money any way you want won't fly for long.
