Found the gold colored item the other night in an old churchyard, started cleaning it up and the color is slowly coming out, but there seems to be a black tarnish of some sort layered on top.
Big question, What is it???

First thought was a pendulum, but the hole is in the wrong side for that, help ??? ???

BTW, hole is in the top(on my pic), goes straight through...you can all but see it in the pic. bottom does not appear to be broken off of anything

Does the hole goes into the piece? What does the back look like?

the hole goes the entire way through. Each side is identical, all four have decoration on them.

Four sides :D

I think you're right on pendulum :icon_thumright:

The black tarnish could be from the silver. What do you mean with the hole is in the wrong side? Is the hole in the thick or thin end of the piece?

Added: I see the hole now (my screen was tilted a bit). So ball at the end does not have a hole?

The ball at the end does not have a hole or a break on it, it is smooth and rounded.

I'm hoping it turns out to be silver. i'm soaking it now in water and dish soap, i'll use a silver cloth on it later and see what happens!

Is the hole 'mammy made' or factory done? Depending on that answer, it could either be the handle to a piece of flatware or a piece from a Victorian gaudy necklace/earring. No matter, the pattern with the 'open face rose' screams Victorian era.

I'd like to see a side view of the piece to see how thick/thin it is.

Interesting find, Breezie

may be an ornamental attachment, e.g. chandelier, a pull of some sort?

I think Breezie got it with necklace/earring :icon_thumright:

I think Stegner hit the nail on the head with the suggestion . . . that it's a decorative ornamental attachment from a hanging oil lamp chandelier. These are obviously made of glass, but I've seen them made of many types of materials.
