Well, I must admit that this was waaay harder than I thought it would be. I drove around from bank to bank and stood in all of the lines just to be told no. Nearly every bank I went to were out. I totaled about 20 banks today and ended up finding one bank that had a lot. They had about 1300.00 worth and said to stop by any time. (No, i can't shell out that much at once, i'm working on getting a career, not keeping one). lol....but, out of the loose change where two banks each had 1.00 worth I found two 1968's. I guess this is what you call 40%?

How many of the about $1300 did you pickup? If you didn't pickup any this may not be the hobby for you. Yes, it is possible that you found someones dump bank but it is also possible that you found one of the older banks in town and they have been sitting on these coins a while. Do you see evidence of other CRH in the area?

best of luck

didn't pick any up so this is not the hobby for me...well, i'll definately have to disagree. If I had 1300 bucks in my pocket i would have got them all, but since I'm a server and a college student I don't have it.....as far as other crh in the area I'm really not sure...this is the 1st day I've ever done this so I don't really know, any advice would be great.

I said may not be the hobby. Would they not sell you $10 or $20 worth? As long as you have an account with the bank it is okay to ask them to do it unless it violates bank policy (pull from coin counter before full, customers subject to count bags, etc..)

Whenever I hear that a bank has that many I'll ask if they are rolled or in a bag, if they have a coin collector that brings them in. More often than not they will say Mr. X brings them in all the time. Most banks will pull them out of the bag up to the amount that you want. It may take a while but it is worth the wait. Many times the teller will even tell you that she saw some silver ones go into your bag.

I never have too much money either, so I go at the beginning of the month when my check hits. I use the money I need for bills to CRH. I'll search $500.00 worth or more, and after I've searched, I put the $$ right back into my account. If you do that much, your odds go up, and if you find 10 keepers, well you've only set aside 5 bucks in halves.

Kevo - That is some pretty good advice in the above post if your want to get started in the hobby. You never know, they could be sitting on a good bit of silver in there.....you will never know until you give it a try. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.
