First time out with new Garrett Infinium LS

I got the machine yesterday and put it together before I went to work(I am a deputy so I work odd hours). I got the machine a day earlier than expected -(excellent costumer service from KELLYCO). I hit the beach this morning and the picture shows my finds. The machine works as advertised. LOW HIGH and HIGH LOW signals. I ran it with a small amount of back ground threshold and without . It was smooth both in the wet/dry sand and water. I did not submerse the whole machine just the coil. It is heavy and by summers end my right arm will be huge. I think I will use the belt that came with the unit to reduce the weight.
I found you need to listen for faint sounds ,the nickel was found at about 8 - 9 inches, I could almost stand my hand scoop on end in the hole and have it the top even with the top of the hole. I did find I needed to slow down my sweeps. All in all I am impressed with the Infinium believe me If it sucked I would say so. Thanks again to all that helped with my choice. Scrooge

Gold and silver is coming ,,,,good first time hunt for ya ... I hip mount all my detectors exept the sandshark. It will save your arm Big time and you can swing the coil for days with no problem . keep the control box right where you wallet sits in your back pocket.. right or left which ever arm you swing with,,,, If its right arm keep control on the right side ,, Good luck Man :thumbsup:

Good first hunt. The gold and silver would be in your pile if it had been there. You are right about slowing down. That is actually the case for any machine. Those who hurry their swings leave tons of stuff behind. I wrote a post about that back a while ago. I mentioned how people seem to find more items early in their hunt than later. That is because your form and concentration is good and then as you grow tired and start getting sloppy and in a hurry, your finds seem to drop off. There are exceptions but that seems to be the rule.

Hip mount your Infinium. That is the only way to go. I am in law enforcement also. I use my velcro uniform underbelt to do my hipmount. I mount the control box on my left side, (I am right handed), and I put my treasure and trash pouch on my right side. This keeps your control box away from your swinging side and also keeps your earphone cables away from that same side. I bought a roll of tear off velcro straps at Home Depot. They are small straps of velcro about 4 to 5 inches long that come on a roll like tape. They are perforated and tear off easily giving just the right length every time. I leave a loop of slack in the coil wire from the control box to the belt and then velcro the coil wire to my belt directly in the front so that the stress is taken off the coil wire where it attaches to the unit. The coil wire from my belt to the shaft swings freely giving me plenty of slack. You can adjust the slack by wrapping more or less around the shaft depending on your height or personal likes or dislikes. If I want to, I can just drop the detector shaft altogether and use my strong arm to dig too without having to hold onto the detector and scoop while digging. This allows it to be tethered to me with no stress on any connection when I am not holding onto the shaft. Can't do that when the control box is shaft mounted. Works well for me and you can swing all day long without getting tired. I have never shaft mounted my Infinium. The velcro belt is easy on and easy off. I will try to post some pics of the mounting next time I hunt.

Thanks for the support. I just realized the watch works -it is a Vulcain automatic, I looked it up on the internet and this model was made between 1950-1968. I think I will have it cleaned by a jeweler and maybe wear it.

Once you learn the language of the machine, you'll be real impressed with what it can do! Just remember, give yourself the time to really understand the tips and tricks and get past the learning curve (you will find deep gold with it)!!!

I've been told the straight shafts which are available really make it much easier to swing with better balance. I'm getting one of them real soon too!!!
