Hi Folks this is my first post to a forum. Went out to a small beach only about 300m long. Doesn't get a lot of use but the sand shifts a lot between visits so I decided see if any old items got lifted up with the last big sand shift. Didn't expect to find much as I had hammered this beach pretty hard over the last 5 months. Quite a lot of iron sand and mineral rich rock on this beach makes it quite hard to sift the good from the bad targets. Might do better here on the super low tides.
The attached little silver ring had been down there a long time as it was badly corroded with some of it going quite deep. The stones looked pretty good and I know it wasn't going to be worth much as scrap so I decided to try my hand at restoring it for a bit of fun.
I had to sand all the silver down with 320 grit sandpaper to get the deep pits out of it and went down though the grades to get a reasonable polish then metal polished it. Turned out not so bad in the end.
Also scored 3 fishing sinkers and 3 obsolete NZ decimal coins Plus the usual heap of bottle tops etc.
Was a fun day out.
Cheers Glenn
