Well, I got my 8x5 in today, after I was out detecting this morning. Well, I couldn't wait to test it out, so we went out tonight and gave it a try.
First off, this thing feels much lighter, a night and day difference. Sure, the covered area is smaller, but there is better separation on targets, so those are both worth it in my book. I wasn't expecting it to look so much smaller, but don't let this fool you, it performed like a larger one.
As for depth, I ended up digging a beaver tail at about a foot depth, with damp soil. It rained a couple nights ago. My jaw dropped, I wasn't expecting a decent signal that deep!
So I know that need more days working with it to give a decent review, but my first impressions are just what everyone told me they would be. I might just never take this one off, I love it so far! I'll give updates as time goes by, but so far, it was worth every penny.

The real trick is to mount your pro pointer under,or by the rear arm cuff,if you are using one!
The weight offsets the heavy feeling of the larger coils,and really shines when you go to the smaller coils. The ATP feels like a different machine. Another real nice accessory is the stands for the MD. They are light,lift the MD higher off the ground,plus they stop it from falling over on it's side,and it adds a little more weight to the rear (not a bad thing on the ATP).Once you do this,you won't care about what coil is on the ATP,and it will feel balanced,and be a joy to swing!
