that is very nice. it must be nice to dig up ancient coins in excellent condition. I'm impressed.

You are lucky to have stubble seeing as the Govt no longer pay for set-a-side. I have permission for 12+ farms & over 6000 acres ALL is under crop :'(

You are very lucky, go out and clear every nail from them fields.

Well done on a nice hammered, maybe this will open the flood gates.

Wonderful Finds

Great find...makes my heart skip

What kind of field is so productive? How deep are you finding them? Do you also dig a lot of trash to find these coins?

(sorry LFc for answering your question & I'm sure your add to my take)

These are found in ploughed fields & are often only a few inches deep. Me & my dad found about 40 last years so 20 each. We detect all the time, so you can work out they are a rare find & normally smashed up by the plough.

Now how they got in a field with no nearby houses:

These were cleared up in rubbish from villages & spread on the fields that they were growing crops on. The most productive fields are ones which have been farmed since the Iron Age 100BC.
