I’m brand new to this and this was my first attempt outside of my yard. My mother I law owns an old house and I’m certain now that it’s never been searched. My very first hole I found a 1916 Barber dime!! 10 minutes later I dug a hole and pulled 21 trace tokens out!! Several wheat pennies, a 46’ dime and a sterling silver napkin ring and what I think is play money were just some of the goodies I found. Needless to say I’m totally hooked. I’ll be digging her yard for at least another year. Being new I’d love to hear what you guys think of all this. Is this non-typical?

Yes, it is unusual to find that one a first dig! And Welcome! It's almost always about the targets being in the ground to begin with.

If everyone had a first dig like that we would have many more detectorists in this world. Nice job and welcome to the addiction.

Welcome to Tnet & your new life long hobby.:hello:

Your off to a very good start!! Keep at it.

You have a good place to hunt it what it comes down to . It looks to be untouched .Does that 1916 dime have a mint mark ? Looks like you are on the right track . Keep us updated on your finds . Good luck .

Hi Merc, no mint Mark on the dime, does this mean Phillidelphia mint?

Looks like your off to a rocket fast start ! I'd say its a little unusual to make those finds on a first outing, but because of the place you were at, it makes sense. Research is a huge part of this hobby. Mother in laws house is old, and never been detected. That's half the battle. The other half is hoping people dropped things in that yard, which they did. I'd keep hitting it for a while. Then, continue to search old places and you will continue to make older finds. Congrats on an excellent first outing.

you killed it....don't stop now..

Looks like you are off to a good start. Congrats on the Barber Dime.

Wow, I would definitely pound that yard hard. Congrats on a lot of really good finds, and welcome to TNet!

I sure wish my first dig had been like that... You murdered it!!! Congrats :notworthy:

Wow! Took me a long time to find my first barber dime. All those trade tokens are neat too. That sounds like an unusually good yard already. Nice going!!

Wow, that is a lot tokens! Nice hunt! :occasion14:

I had a similar first hunt, totally hooked me. Welcome to tnet and happy hunting....keep it up!

Yes. Nice job! That's the metal detecting equivalent of a hole in one!

You're over virgin ground. It's obvious that the property has not been searched. Let me suggest that you put that silver Barber Dime in a coin folder and put the date and location of the find on it. Also Mark it with big red letters, FIRST

My first hunt I found a 1964 Rosie, I thought I hit the jackpot. I had visions of silver in my head and my perspective on values was way off. Just after that I came up with an idea of a place to hunt and found my first silver Washington Quarter, that site produced 23 silvers for me and I thought I was on my way to becoming a rich man. Haaaaaaaa I've been hooked ever since that 1964 dime. Congrats on a great hunt, your first, savior that feeling. It's hard to find places that have never been hunted, but after detecting for a few years now I've finally learned that no place ever gets hunted out. GL & HH
