hi, i finally got my first metal detector today (LG Outdoors GC-1023), it's still so dark here in finland so it's pretty difficult to see if there's anything in the ground, but i did try for a couple minutes at my parents backyard, and found my first coin (though i had hard time seeing it on the ground without light, and the rain wasnt helping much either ). i'll try it out a bit more on the weekend when there's atleast some light

You can always bring a small flashlight with you. A pinpointer works even better for night hunting. Good luck!

Great hunting. you must really have the habit bad to hunt in the dark and rain,I know just how you feel :} There are several different types of led book-lights,worm-lights that are very small and can be fashioned to shine on your display screen. My detector has a backlight so when I hunt at night I really dont use any light at all. I do carry a little led light on my keychain to have a look at interesting finds,also you will have a lot better time locating finds with a pinpointer. I use a Vibraprobe,its waterproof and doesnt make any noise just vibrates when it gets close to your find,HH...Shoot
