Fish Tailing

I see so many detectorists in videos fish tailing in Utube videos and some of these are seasoned hunters. Makes no sense.
Hi. Not familiar with that term. Is it zig zag type detecting without a propper pattern or overlap?

Yes. I got to thinking, that makes better sense, Hunt that way until a hit and a decent find and then overlap there for a while. It is logical. That is, in open areas.

Do you mean swinging like a Z or a W?

I have seen folks detecting at such a high rate of speed I wonder.
Really it been laying there forever, so what's the hurry?
The only time I increase the coil swinging is when I'm hot spotting for another iron patch.
But I still maintain the flat low, coil covering the edge of the previous coil swing.
Then it's a 75/25 coil coverage, and in heavy iron 50/50 coil coverage.
The swing slows right down, but still maintain a speed where the processor works well.

Hi. Yeah that's generally what I do in new areas with no visible signs like junk and glass. Swing away so to speak until I hit targets then work in a methodical pattern. I use all metal so I can hear when im into an action zone. Noisy but gives a good idea when to slow down and pick.
Golds a different kettle of fish though.
