I have a Whites Eagle II SL and would not trade it EVER.
You are obviously looking at older used units and probably on a budget (like most of us).
I got my Eagle SL II on eBay for $168 plus shipping which was unbelieveably cheap since they normally bring $225-350 used.
Its a great detector! The first programmable digital detector made by anyone (I believe), and Whites Top-Of-The-Line at the time 1989-90 (sold for about $800 back then).
Precursor to the Spectrum and XLT line.
Its a deep hitter and target ID is spot on. I have the stock 950 coil and also the 15" Blue Max.
It will use any of the Blue Max line of coils.
I would stay away from the older Blue Box Eagle just because the black box SL II Eagle is much more ergonomic.
You should also look for the Silver Eagle model (even harder to find), which is also a real depth monster on silver.
I can't speak for the Fisher you mentioned because I've never used one, but you will never regret getting a Whites Eagle II SL
I do also own a Fisher F2 which I keep in the truck as my knock around unit.
Its a good detector in its own right and probably the best of the current entry level units (in my opinion).
If you want a NEW detector for around $200, the F2 is the way to go.

Gary is right: The eagle sl II 90 was a great machine. Make sure yours is the final version with the 950 loop and black box (as opposed to the earlier blue box and white solid loops). The depth on more current machines has exceeded the depth of the Eagle, is the only reason I've gone to Minelab explorer for all my coin/relic hunting. But for all else, the Eagle was great. Fast target response, great target ID. Very versatile for things like old-town urban demolition site hunting, ruinsy type places, regular parks, etc... All I could complain about, was that when the explorer started making the rounds, it added another few inches of depth. Also the Eagle was never too good in wet salt beaches. But being as how you're in Ohio, wet-salt beaches are the least of your worries.
