Well my new F2 arrived from Kellco defective.

This is my first ever dealings with them I really don't expect any troubles. (knock on wood)

As you can see there are bare wires at the coil.

Overall my first out of the box impression was "it's made out of plastic."

It very light and stiff and well balanced with no rattles or odd movements.

I don't plan on using it until I hear from Kellco, too bad thought because in the morning I'm going to an old park that's always been good to me. I'm going to hunt along the bushes and fence lines.

Sorry to see you had this bad experience. The folks at KellyCo will take care of it I'm sure. I'd call them and explain it to them. Maybe you could use it now and wait for a new coil to arrive like someone wrote in a previous post? And also I'd say don't let plastic get you down. Quality plastic is very good and light weight. Be encouraged and think treasure. 8)

Your silicone bandaid may only seal out the water but.... it did nothing to relieve the strain on the wires. Being in the electronics business I know how important it is to have cables and wires pass through an adequite strain relief. If there is no strain relief then the wires will move too much and surely your coil will fail.

I know it's not mine but I don't understand not taking up Kellycochick's offer of fixing it????????????????? ???

Just to let everyone know that's read this that Kellyco has gone out of their way to make things right.

I have chosen to repair the defect and feel the repair will last the life of the detector, that's why I choose not to send it back.

Kellyco is a top notch company!

Are you still using the F2??? I love mine and have had no problems. But I'm new to the F2 I purchased it for 100.00 almost new.

And I love it.
Take a look at my Indian's I have found..

I still have my F2 and I can't say enough good things about it. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up here in NW Ohio so I can get back out there.
I bought the 10" DD coil for it over Xmas and I want to use it like a sweeper picking up clad. I wish there was some way to ground balance it, that's probable it's only short fall.
It's a real clad hog that's for sure.

Sorry to hear about your defective unit Blockhead. After all the controversy surrounding a different high priced model for so long, you'd like to think the manufacturer would under no circumstances, allow poor quality control to continue. Yet, there does continue to be routine complaints regarding build quality here and elsewhere. Just check out the specific forums. Do these folks not realize the damage to their reputation? Or are sales booming anyway?

Just the other day, the weather sealing suddenly began falling off in strips from my 75's meter for no apparent reason. The body wiggles on the rod unless you set the arm cuff just so. It's the last time I'll purchase anything from them. Meanwhile, I cannot convey the relief and satisfaction I felt when I opened up the box containing my new MXT300. Even my wife, a non-detectorist, was impressed by the quality, professional look and build of the White's unit. There are many things I do like about my 75, but build quality is not one of them. That's the plain and simple truth.

Jim.

In my opinion, White's has the best made upper end machines on the market. I can't say all White's machines, though. I don't like the prism series. I'm not fond of the plastic housing, and lack of search coil selection on the Prism series. They had a proven series with the Classics and the IDX, but flushed them for more bells and whistles.

i like my prizm IV....and they just released the mini DD coil for the prizm series....so they are back in competition lol

if I remember correctly, the F2 has an auto ground balance, that compensates for the ground as you move.
just my 2 cents, but, i would have sent it back, this isn't a toy, it's a rather expensive hobby, and I personally wouldn't take the chance of voiding my warranty but putting a "FIX" on it.
you paid for a new machine, you should be using a new machine.
I'm with V, you don't know if there's damage to the wires at the coil, you can't see it. and if it does fail, how do you know where the problem is? Is it the coil? Is it the control box? Is it in the "FIX" you placed on it?
