DAY 1
I went back to the older scout camp (1950) to grid another section of the parade field. I spent 4.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 40 coins with a face value of $2.46, a compass, a medal, a neckerchief slide, a few bullets, 2 tack heads, a shoe grommet, a small brass ring, an ace bandage clip, a swivel snap, 6 camp tent pegs, a little can slaw, 2 aluminum bottle caps, shotgun headstamps, .22 brass casings, 2 pencil ends and 19 tabs.
The compass is a Taylor Instrument made in the 1960s. The center was clear before it was buried for years. You can see the scout emblem on the back.
The dime is a badly worn 1920 merc. You can just barely see the zero on the date. This is the third hunt in a row at this camp with a silver find. The back is even worse than the front and if there was a mint mark it is gone now.
The medal is a Cub Scout God and Me religious award. This one is for the Methodist, Protestant, Lutheran faiths. There is a different medal for Catholics.
DAY 2
We went camping with our daughter to a park that has 2 large swimming areas. I usually hunt for about 3 hours each morning because the park gets pretty crowded. This trip was windy and cold and not many people were in the water so I stayed for 5 hours until I was cold to the bone and tired.
The weather hasn’t been great so not a lot of contributors leaving stuff behind. But there are always things that have been missed in the past. This park is also hunted by lots of other folks so right place right time applies.
Most of the targets were small and in shallow water. I scooped up larger iron signal to clean up and in case they were masking a better target.
I spent 5 hours swingin the ATpro set on PRO ZERO with IRON AUDIO on, IRON DISC set at 30 and SENSITIVITY 2 down from max.
In the first swimming area I found 9 coins with a face value of $1.09, some jewelry, a tent peg in 4 feet of water, an aluminum bag clip, selfie stick retainers, safety pin parts, a shoe grommet, a zipper part, a tab and a piece, an aluminum rivet, part of a lead fishing lure, a small aluminum knockout, tabs from aluminum bottle caps, sinkers and tiny bits of foil.
Most of the jewelry was cheapie stuff. The only ring looks nice but is also a cheapie. Luckily Stitch is 14k. He was a solid 39 on the Pro. Right in the foil range. Not a lot of gold in him, mostly plastic or enamel and the gold is thin like foil which is why he rang up so low. He looks nice and one of may granddaughters is Stitch crazy so she will be very happy when I give him to her.
Unfortunately when you search for the tiny gold and silver earring backs and tiny earrings you get all the little junky stuff and foil, but most of the time it pays off. I don’t use the numbers to decide if I’m scooping or not. But it does give me a clue as to what I might be finding. If it is a high or mid tone or a combination I’m going to scoop it. Sure I find lots of junk, but I don’t leave many goodies behind.
DAY 3
The second day was colder than the first, but there was almost no wind and I had on a heavier dive skin under by wet suit so much more comfortable.
I spent another 5 hours swinigin the Atpro in the second swimming area and found 8 coins with a face value of $1.21, more jewelry this time, tabs from aluminum bottle caps, a sequin, the end of a charge cord, part of a zipper, lots of pellet gun pellets, a fishing swivel, selfie stick retainers, a pencil end (can’t escape them), sinkers and tiny bits of foil.
4 pieces of jewelry are silver, a hoop earring with small czs, 2 earring backs and a tiny silver bead. 3 of the earrings look like silver, but I can’t find a mark on them.
I did find one ring. It was in 2 pieces found about 20 feet apart. The crystal is nice, but the ring itself is junk.
Overall a good camping trip with hunts. Nothing fantastic, but lots of targets and some interesting finds.
My silver and gold count this year will probably be way down. I do a lot of water hunting in a park with a large lake that has 3 swimming areas. This year they are in an extreme drought and the water level is still down below the swimming areas. So they have closed the park to swimming. If we don’t get a monsoon there will be nothing to find (I clean it out pretty good during the winter each year when the swimming areas are dry). BUMMER.
NON DETECTOR FINDS
I finally found something in the coinstar, 2 quarters, one dime, four pennies and a washer. Again nothing great, but at least it’s something.
Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
