Fisher F2 indicates coin for aluminum

That is why you will read so many experienced folks say Dig everything, .. You need to learn what good stuff sounds like and can not go by the readout alone. Also you have to learn to measure the target.. I assume you have a pin point mode on that machine.. as you move left /right and forward and back while pin pointing, you will notice that the signal of a pop can will be a lot larger area than a quarter.

Another trick to is to raise the coil off the ground while pin pointing and if the depth reading does not change as you lift up, the target is big and probably deeper than the reading..

You just have to get very well acquainted with your machine. The VDI numbers are worthwhile, the target indicators, not so much. Don't put ANY faith in the target ID. Learn the sounds. They will tell you more than the display. A quarter near the surface, and a beer can at ten inches may sound the same. If you get a strong quarter signal and it isn't in the first two inches, it's probably something much larger much deeper. And you should learn to recognize a quarter signal from the VDI, rather than the target ID. The only way to learn your machine's "language" is to dig A LOT of cans and pull tabs.

Thanks for the info. Raising the coil and listening helped a lot. Pulled a dime and three pennies today.

Raising the coil can save the day, because if it was silver or copper it would of read a lot higher than quarter for it being that size in the ground at that shallow dept....
