Fisher or Minelab

Have a Fisher F70. I have a chance to pick up a Minelab Safari for a great price. Any real reason to do this, other than getting a new toy? Anybody with real world experience using both?

Just try and make sure the safari is a real one, fakes are all over my area, so are the fake gpx5000's that are all over around here, brand new in the box for 2 grand...sure it is new, just not real heh.

I disagree. I believe that you should always go into the field with a spare.
My backup machines have been very useful at times.
It is also nice in case a friend wants to join you.

My primary is a F75 and my back-up is a Minelab Musketeer II Pro. The latter doesn't give up much for relic or all-metal work, but has no discrimination to speak of and is audio only. It's good to have a spare or loaner.

For what it is worth, I had a Safari, hated it. put that booger on E-Bay as quick as I could type! -- The K-car of metal detectors! Sounded like a crying baby, couldn't find an elephant in a strawberry patch. -- IMHO

Was for me, --- I have an X-Terra 705 and love it. Had a Quattro, and E-Trac, both were fine. Safari.......... not so much.......(K-car) (IMHO)

How do you like the 705? I find it an amazingly good machine that I like better than the Etrac in decent soil. The balance, weight, audio, target separation and prospecting mode make it a great machine.

I like the 705, Definitely a great detector. Light, powerful, full featured. --- If a man has a 705 and a AT Pro, you have all you need. (as always, IMHO)

Different people different detectors! Only rule is you have to get along with it and learn it well.

I know many people who do very well with the Safari. It is a good machine, I'm not sure what others are referring to it being terrible or whatever. If it tests out well and looks good go for it.
