Fishing weight???

[Cole55]

Not sure what this is but I found this at a very old house. Does not say anything. But has like fishing line on it. I know fishing line is a more new thing but still have no clue what this is. It might have been used as fishing weight because it seems to have some good weight to it. Just bigger than a quarter..

Hem or curtain weight. Re-used as fishing sinker.

I've seen references to them being used in some of the military jackets since they seem to turn up on a lot of civil war sites but have no idea as to the validity of such claims. That would take someone with more schooling than myself to verify.

i used to dig them out of the drapes at my middle school
