Found a flat button today at a spot were I have found a couple others. This is the first one I've ever found with a back mark I could read. It says "treble gilt colour" It was found very near a 1883 IH penny. Would love to know more about it. Thanks for any help.

I thought it was British because of the word "colour" any idea of age. I can't seem to find that back mark on line.

My thoughts on 'colour', also.

Sorry, can't help you on age. Great find.

I think CBG had some recent info on buttons that might help you.

Your age range should be somewhere between 1790 and 1820. After 1820 we didn't bring in many British buttons because we could make them starting in the 1820s.

Hi; Yours is Pre 1820. By 1820 we were using the 2 Piece buttons exclusively. If you could Post a picture of the FRONT of the button I can date it even better for you ok. PEACE:RONB
