Anyone ever seen these? Found all three close together. They appear to have been a tube at one time with rings attached for hanging on something, the position of the rings for hanging suggest that it hangs horizontal. The punched letter S seems to be identical in all 3. Made of copper. Each one (flattened) is 3/4" x 1 3/4". Thanks

Parts of a neck-less? Perhaps some trade item to Native Americans. Are there other artifacts in the location you found these? The Indians were known to take items used for one thing, and change them to suit their fancy. My first thought was altered ram-rod pipes off a gun, but after looking closer, not that, they were used for something beside that, and with the links, best guess is neck-less. I think the sideways S is just a decoration, probably means nothing.

The area was a battle site in the War of 1812 and in latter years (1864 - 1950) it was a farm.

Because they are made from copper and due to the holes I believe they may be some form of hand / pocket warmer.
This is a pure guess.

I tried to find something like that - the hand warmer idea - but could not. Another thought was sulfur containers to burn in wood wine/food kegs to disinfect them prior to filling. Size is right but all I found were round and on rigid wires instead of loose rings.

That could be a possibility, but the hanging holes suggest that it is suppose to hang horizontal and both ends are open as well as the sideways S. These don't appear to be burnt.
