I went to the local Flea Market this morning just to kill some time and there were a couple guys there with artifacts. One was an older guy that I have seen there a number of times who has a bunch of bogus crap that is ridiculously priced and I have told him so numerous times. He swears they are all personal finds from a farm in Hillsboro Ohio, yet he has Folsoms, Perds, Montells, Bannerstones, Pipes, Bone Tools, and even African points that are all crap. Today he had a 13 inch point made of what looked like Hixton that he said came from a farm near him and it had a Montell base. I just laughed at him when he said he'd let it go for $10,000. I wonder just how many people actually walk around a Flea Market with ten grand in their pocket? lol
Anyway, I did find a guy that had good pieces, mostly field grade, but at least they were good. He had about 100 points he wanted $150 for which was a decent deal, but who wants to spend that much on field grade points when you can get out and find them. I did however pick out 14 pieces for $40 that are pretty nice. I got a tray of Ft Ancient Triangles, a really nice little black Knife made from a very high quality Zaleski Flint, and another larger Knife made from some very nicely colored Carter Cave. (at least I believe it's Carter. It could be Flint Ridge) He said these all came off a buddies farm in Ross county Ohio.
The large Knife has some very nice flaking on it, including some that looks to be Outre Passe type flaking. It probably isn't Paleo, but I can hope. The flaking terminates to a nice median ridge on one side and the other has the possible Outre Passe flaking. There is also a Spokeshave worked in near the tip on one edge and the other edge has had burin flaking done to it. The small black Zaleski piece is very well flaked bu unfortunately it doesn't show up well in the pictures. It has some very find pressure retouch flaking on both edges and is still very sharp.
I figure I have less than $3 each in them, $2.85 to be precise, so I didn't get hurt with them at all.
Enjoy the pics.
