Thanks! I thought it was another handle to an old pie safe/icebox. I almost threw it away!

Way ta go. The hammer is in great shape.:icon_thumright:

I have one too, mine is made of steel, also has the flint....HH.....Bonzmusket part.webpIMG_3255 (2).webp

Wow its in great shape...maybe somebody ran out of ammo and used his rifle as a club...

It does not look like steel, and I have never seen one that wasn't steel on a real gun. It also does not look like the vise actually works and it doesn't look like flint in the vice. I'm thinkin' toy part.

I agree Gunsil, I’ve been a collector for a Long time and I’ve never seen a brass flintlock hammer before (just wouldn’t hold up). And yes, the shape of the top jaw doesn’t look right. Not trying to downgrade your find, it’s still a neat piece, but I don’t believe it’s from a period flintlock weapon.

Yup! That’s sweet

It is from a toy or non-firing replica. The hammer would have to be made of steel or iron, and the top jaw, flint, and screw are all cast in one piece on yours.

Gotta agree with Gunsil and Fullstock that it is a toy. The "flint" in the jaws looks molded in. You can see in the pic of the real one, how the flint is wrapped in leather. A heart pounding find for sure, and one that makes this hobby so fascinating..........................Daniel
