Flintlock Powder Tester!

I got back out to my favorite site last weekend for a few hours. The beauty of this home site is that it's at the corner of a soy field far from the farmhouse, and I have not dug a single piece of trash here. Far better is that every target has been Civil War or before.

I had no idea what this thing was when I dug it but I suspected it was special. After a few days of research and help from the What's It forum crew, I determined this is a Flintlock Powder Tester. The firing mechanism matches what would be on a period flintlock. It would be fired the same and the dial at the bottom is numbered. Depending on how far the dial turns upon firing would determine the strength of the powder. These designs date to the late 1700s to very early 1800s. :headbang::headbang:

Congrats on an awesome find! I have never seen one of those either in all of my years hunting, shooting and attending Gun Shows.

Congratulations Very nice and unusual find Flintlock Powder Tester now when I find mine I will know what it is. That is if I find one in the next week or two
 

That is such an awesome find, Congratulations! I believe the only one I’ve ever seen was on Pawn Stars.

Got to be 100:1 more flintlock pistol parts to find compared to this rare tester. And I sure hope you remember where you found it, so you can get the rest of it!!

That’s too cool , don’t think I’ve seen one of them before or knew they existed ..... keep an eye out for flints in any plowed fields
 

That’s an awesome find. I have only seen one in the past and that one was in a antique gun catalog when I was a kid. You have a great spot there. Keep swingin.
