Florida Spring coats coins to protect them?

I could not get this to come out the way it looks in person without setting up the whole photo studio setup. This penny I found today is a 1971 D, so it's a copper. It has a patina finish that was absolutely perfect on both sides. It looked as if someone had painted it. The patina is dark gray, with super sparkles. It looks like ground granite with lots of mica in it. I found a quarter with a similar coating, but it wasn't anywhere near the even thickness and perfect coating as this penny. I wish I could get a picture that showed how beautiful this looks.

Handling while dry caused it to chip, it is a very weak coating. You can see from the pic of the back.

I have found coins with that coating as well.....it is pretty interesting what different reactions soils have on coins.
