flour gold clay seperation

I have this very thick clay sludge that is full of flour gold, but I have no idea on how to separate the gold from the clay. I have tried panning with a huge loss. I am going to try sluicing as soon as the weather is better but past experience is that clay does not do well with the clay.

Have you tried Clay Be Gone?

Dilute with water and run through any wheel or bowl and add some sodbuster/claybgone-John

Mr. One gentleman I met would add about two tablespoons of Calgon per 1/3 barrel of clay mix, let it soak overnight, then run it thru trommel or other device. You might need to use shampoo on final clean-up. Good luck. If you find can't recover the gold, I'd be happy to give it a try. Jimmygoat

I dont think sluicing would do very well my experince shows that clay actuly steals the gold from your sluice its like a piece of bubble gum it just pick up every thing it touches now the trommel would defintly work period. in controled discharge you could even rerun your mat. over again that clay is a tuffy the main trick is you have to break it down 'hence the soap' but thats all i have.

HOW TO DEAL WITH CLAY!

Laugh if you want it works!

Obtain one of these.

Fill it 2/3 full of your material.

Add enough water to cover plus some.

Add a few (Seven or Ten) fist size rounded cobble stones.

Add 1 cap of joy dish soap.

It is best to run the Mixer/Tumbler at Full Zenith!

For you none technical types, that means strait up!

Turn on.

Go Drink a Beer. This is a most important step. Pay Attention Son!!!!


On inspection the top of the soup should look like MUD and some what be clearing up.

Dump 1/3 of this run into a save container. (Your Not Done with it Yet!)..

Add New Material and restart the mixer. Replenish the lost water!

Return to the mixer and repeat the above steps at least 6 times! Yes that can be monitored in six packs!

At 1/2 six pack add another cap of joy dish soap.

Now it's Napp time.

Allow machine to tumble until lunch and Napp is obtained. This is a Important Step Son, Pay attention!!!!

Now dump the top 2/3rds of your soup into the save container.

Add Fresh water to mixer and let tumble for for 30 minutes. That's just about 1 (One) beer!


Ok, your about to Realize the Fruits of your Labor!

Dump out the crappy water and chuck it out.

Hand Pan the concentrates left .

You will be amazed.

As for the SAVE Pan?

That was just to give you something to do.

You can rerun it all if you want some more beer but your not going to find much.

This work quite well on none clay bearing materials as well.

Drop the foaming soap as you have now created a floatation cell and you adios your fines--add non sudsing ammonia/lye/and or that surfactant(spot free) used in dishwashers to eliminate foaming frothing mess-John

John , it dose not get agitated enough to foam much.

Other wetting agents help but do not break down the clay so well.

I have used both.

now that is a good idea it will break up the clay and the agitation will put 99% of the gold in the bottom of mixer. not bad thats prospector ingenuity at its best ...
