I hunted rather thoroughly the immediate area where I found the 1796 Large Cent on Monday and could only recover a nice late 1700's button with nice geometric circles on it and a small rosette. But, while I was there I got the pleasure of viewing and sort of photographing two Scarlet Tanagers, a brilliant colored male and dull colored female, one pic included when he was sitting high above me in the trees.

Anyway, I decided to do some exploring in the area and started walking further east following the faint remains of an old dirt road, long forgotton about. LOL< I got a beautiful signal in the middle of nowhere and unfortunately it was a clad quarter, grrrrrrrrrr, not what you expect to find in an area like that.

As I walked about a mile, I found no signs of any new places to hunt, so I turned around and as I got back within a block of the sawmill, I started to get a lot of iron hits and I looked around and saw a 5 foot deep small hole in the ground with a very big pine tree growing out of the center of it! I was not quite sure at first that it was a homestead site ,but I immediately dug a button, then about 4 pieces of harmonica. So, now I decided to take my time at this spot and delay leaving for a bit. Glad I did, even though I got no old coins today, I think when I unearthed the Navy Anchor brass piece, a nice smile appeared. I never saw anything similar so finding a military related relic is always a thrill.

So the highlight of the hunt today was finding the navy anchor thing. Sure am looking for idea of what it was nailed to, and possible a date era?

As I got back to my truck , I saw a hen turkey fly over it. Kind of neat, then I heard a cluck, cluck, cluck type of sound. I looked around and thought perhaps it was a hunter using a call for turkey, since the season is in right now in Jersey, but no, it was the real deal. Near the top of a big Cedar tree was a big ole Tom Turkey, Cluckin away.

While driving home saw quite a few hen turkeys, very active right now, just before nesting season I guess. Overall, a very enjoyable morning, seeing wildlife (no snakes this time) and getting a few relics.

Awesome day, Tanger, Turkeys, Lady slippers, and a unique find. Who can ask for more than that. I saw the anchor in What is it. Any good ideas yet?

I'm also looking for a new camera, thanks for the info, it's even in the budget.

Keep up the good work Don!

Great weather to just be outside, isn't it Don? When it is like this outside, it almost doesn't matter if you find anything. It is just a bonus!
