Food based acid to reveal number in coin?

What exactly are you trying to do. Please be specific on your goal. Different acids have different effects on different metals and alloys.

Time for more coffee.

A microscope or loop helps the thing is most dug coins have little value to collectors because of Enviornmental damage as they are labled. even alot of key dates now some silver coins come out pretty clean are you trying to get a date on a key date coin or just a coin where you dont mind cleaning or are you trying not to clean it very much and just want to clean enough to get a date.Hope I didnt confuse you. Because Im lost lol you could post a pic and see if someone might be able to help

Back in the day I knew a guy (my dad) who used something called nick-a-date to lift the date off buffalo nickels

I have used vinegar on slicked out nickels to restore the date and details but the coin has to be free of corrosion, and it will take up to a month soaking in the vinegar. I have used lemon juice to restore missing details from steel guns, but it acts quickly on the steel, and needs to be contained and neutralized with baking soda once the details are revived.

A soak in catsup or worcheshire sauce will sometimes clean a nickel well enough to read a date but they also turn the nickel an ugly flat grey color. I have ruined a few nickels that way and wouldn’t do it again. If it’s a silver coin lemon juice works great as does tinfoil/baking soda and boiling water.

I used nic-a-date on a roll of dateless Buffalo nickels. It worked every time but leaves a stain where the date is. Gary

I also heard that. Try lemon or vinegar then also tell me because i also want to try it.

It is a Buffalo Nicole. I can easily use lemon today, but how long to soak it??

Gary said what I was going to say! It is true, but I don't believe that company is in business anymore. Not for many years.

I just squint until my eyes hurt, then label it "No date Buffalo Nickel" and put it in my coin folder.
