My hunt this afternoon was abruptly cut short when I stepped on a fish hook. I was hunting barefoot on a high traffic beach. I was glad this did'nt happen to a child. Unfortunately, the barb went into the flesh and I did'nt have a wire cutter so I had to pull back out the way it went in. OOOuuuch!!! not fun. :'(

Wow, you didnt have to cut your day short, you just ripped it out instead.
I've seen this situation many times, and so many times I've had to cut my day short to take someone to the doctor because they didnt have the courage to do what you did.
Way to go man !!
I'd hunt with you anytime :)

PS try this next time...

I have found bottle caps still attached to the broken off neck of beer bottles, lots of other glass, filet knives and other sharp objects. I always wear shoes of some kind when hunting.

My group cleans the county beaches and swim areas and you would be suprised at the steak knives we find in the water. I can partly understand someone losing a pocket knife but why take a steak knive swimming? Always wear strong foot wear and your feet will thank you.

I took to wearing fisherman's wading shoes for stocking foot waders. Trouble is they have brass nails that set off the Excal so I use a longer shaft to get the coil farther away.

That looks like it hurt, If i'm in a area that I feel the need I use a pair of Bare Diving Boots and if i'm headed for the chest high also. Often early mornings during the summer I'll even wear my boot foot Hodgeman lite waders. But once the afternoon is on and it is Hot, swimming trunks, white T, and some neoprene shorties boots. I think the hook would go thur the neo booties.......good info on how to remove a hook......Hope you back out soon......joe

Yea give that a good soak in peroxide...scrub it with hibiclens surgical scrub and ask your doctor to prescribe mupirocin. Especially if your going into fresh water before it heals. I am now thinking of upgrading my booties, I thought mine were good enough. HH -Joe

Those high top boots.....do they make shorter ones? Seems like you would have some funny tan lines halfway up your leg.
Last time I went fishing with sandals with two straps, it left me a couple of goofy tan lines that I can still see. That was 2 years ago ???

Are detectorists the only people with high leg tanlines and tan line where the arm cuff is? That's how you spot a true MD'er. :D
Don't forget the earphone tanlines. :tongue3:

Ouch had that happen to me before but I still do not wear shoes on the beach. I can not stand the sand getting in them drives me crazy. Just a small flesh wound not a big deal. I am a fishing guide and have removed quite a few from my self and other folks. Now get back out and find that gold.

I have found the top of jagged glass bottles with bottle caps still atttached, filet knives, and worse of all hypo needles all burried in the sand, I will not hunt with out shoes....My dive boots get next to no sand in them, you can not even feel it, I also wear crocks, no sand problem there either. Plain tennis shoes fill up with sand. I also have a pair of water tennis shoes that has drain holes in the bottom to drain water and sand.
