Don't have chickens anymore but they would go nuts on watermelon rind when I had them

a bag of live crickets.I tear a hole in the bag and huck it in with them

Waste of good bait. Use those crickets to go catch you a mess of bream.

Ours go ape over leftover popcorn from the movies and pancakes/waffles that the grandkids don't eat.

Throw a snake in the pen...

Hot dogs. Seriously.

They also have jumped up to steal some fried chicken I was eating :):icon_scratch:

Grasshoppers. These are our flock following a potential source (my wife).

It also seems to be that whatever the hen beside it has is what the hen most wants. I've seen them tear toads apart. Ugh.

I've watched some chickens tear the hell out of snakes also. It's almost worse than a wolf pack... I swear.

Besides the rooster, my birds favorite treat is also watermelon.

Fried, on my plate next to the taters and biscuits n gravy.

With sides of cooked cabbage and strawberry rhubarb sauce.

And finished with a slab of apple pie...hummmmmmmmm

Oh, and coffee...black, of course....

I agree with stefen, # 15, I do not raise chickens, because their manure smells real bad, and I do not like walking in the house with manure on my shoes. Tippy, my cat likes to eat chickens, but loves T- bone steaks a lot better, medium rare.

Along the subject... My wife and I are very excited!!!
Last week the city of Ft. Myers finally approved a change in the city ordinance restricting backyard hens. With the legalities ironed out, there is going to be a trial basis, for a limited number of single family properties within city limits. No more than 4 hens, (no Roosters), and they have to have a minimum living space, with a maximum square footage of 25 feet... Today was the first day they were accepting applications, my wife was the first (and only:laughing7:) one in line. The site plans that we submitted were approved on the spot, so we may be eating fresh eggs for Christmas!

It is our preference to live country, but the city life is where our home is now, during this time in our lives.
When we bought our house, there was no landscaping, nothing. In the past 8 years, we have, well, call it a list...
Vegetable garden, butterfly garden, orchids, workshop/shed, 3 rain barrels, 3 box beehive, countless other native landscaping, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 birds, a fish named Antonio Banderas, and now we are going to have four girls added to the family!!!

Get the Mac and Cheese ready!

Mine make little squealing noises of delight with the mac and cheese especially. Watermelon is good too. They regularly get blueberry and cream cheese muffins.
The eggs are so big I need a crane to pick them up :)

Your chickens eat better then me and that is why I want you to adopt me.

Not that I know of. I gave them permission (free) and signed the waiver but as far as I know it never was used.

I used to give my chickens a little pot now and then, they seemed very happy and ate more...but they all just wandered away from home !
