OH MY! IN THE REAR! Yes "FORKED" ! This cannot bode well for the shortest hunt I've had this year so far. The predicted (possible) rain for today had not arrived here in Lexington by the time I got off work at 3:00 this afternoon. I had resigned myself to not getting to detect any today due to the weather predictions, but happily I ended up getting the chance after all. So. I did! To the nearest park, Masterson Station Park, the venue for most of my hunts this year so far. Would today be as productive as the previous hunts?
I was only giving myself an hour today, as I still had to go home and fix dinner for myself tonight. My wife had to attend a board meeting for her not for proffit organization, so I was fending for myself. Anyway, back to the hunt. Windy but warm, some clouds but lots of sunshine too.. the park was a little crowded for some odd reason. I decided to hunt a different part of the park today, one that I've not hunted much yet as I didn't think I would find much. <rolling eyes> There I go again, making assumptions... what do I know? This part of the park is "parking" area for the soccer fields as well, but not used that much due to the hilly terrain there. I did find stuff however. Pull tabs, of course, some fence wire, some electrical wire, even a CELL PHONE!.. Ok.. so it's the remains of a cell phone anyway, guess the answer was "no"... you know.. the famous question.."Can you hear me now?" <laughing> I found a really stale, or at least "hard" doughnut too. STEEL doughnut. <grin> Actually it's the "ball" part of a ball hitch. Some plumbing, pieces of pipe fixtures. And.. a FORK! Yeah.. I got FORKED in the park today. I guess someone had a picnic with REAL flatware instead of the plastic stuff like the fast food joints give out.

I found some stuff more associated to athletic fields and soccer fields.. a lost cleat stud.. a zipper pull, a metal "bead" or bar from perhaps another zipper pull or something. And ANOTHER Mead Cup Invitational Youth Soccer Tournament pin.. for 2008. I've got a couple of these same pins from past hunting trips here and at other soccer parks.

Best of all, for today anyway.. was the RING !!!!! <happy dance all over again> My first ring for this year, and it's a beauty! It may only be silver, with one big square cut amethyst maybe? there were eight smaller stones, four each on each shoulder of the ring, but only two survive.. darn. Those smaller stones are greenish looking to my eye, I have no idea what they might be. I tried not to get excited when I first pulled it from the dirt. I mean, I've found junk rings before and got all excited before I found out that they were actually junk. <laughing> But you still get that HighVoltage Tingling at the back of the neck, your heart beats a little faster, your breathing gets a little short, and you get this big goofy silly grin on your face and feel the urge to the do the Happy Dance (some call it the chicken dance). You don't? Oh.. well.. maybe it's just me then. <laughing> I suppressed the urge to dance.. until I knocked off some of the dirt from inside the band.. and saw (925) stamped on the inside. SILVER!!!! YEEEEHAAAAAWWWWW!!!!

Once I got home and cleaned up my finds a little bit I found that my ring was more than just a (925) but rather an (S925) What does that mean? "Sterling Silver"? Anyone got some info for me out there?

...Also, there is a Jewelers Stamp or trade mark on the inside of the band as well... Perhaps this ring is not of United States Origin. The only other ring I've found (so far) that had a Jeweler's Stamp was an Irish Made Cladaugh silver ring. Here's a picture of the stamp. I apologize for the quality of the picture, it is a SMALL stamp however.

WHEW!!!! Getting Forked, then finding a silver ring! I could pretty much call it a day, and I pretty much did. My allotted time was up so to speak so I headed for home. My monetary finds for the day were meager at best, I almost didn't even take a pic or was going to mention it, but I figured that I could show all the other newbies out there (like myself) that we all have off days or low coin counts from time to time. <smile>

Well you can see, it wasn't a lot. But I'm not complaining. I did find one old VERY well worn Wheat Penny too.. 1948 O (New Orleans Mint?)

Well that's my adventure for the day.. a barely on hour hunt, FORKED, and A Silver Ring!!! COOL!

Hope you all get to get out and detect a little soon.. and as always..

HAPPY HUNTING EVERYONE~

FRODOV---- GREAT HUNT. NICE FINDS,GREAT STORY AND PICTURES.

Nice ring, sorry no wheaties minted in New Orleans, nice photos.

Frodov, your fork-find hits close to home but fortunately not in my rear! Although newer, it was made by a an old company near Syracuse, NY, started in 1880. Went belly-up in 2006, they couldn't compete with you know who...Anyway, hope the next one you find says S924 or at least 924.

if that was really a o that would be something! no such thing . congrats willy.

Denver Mint on the penny

Oh.. ok. I can see where it would be a D instead of an O. <blushing> Well in my own defense, the penny IS very VERY worn. <grin> My ignorance aside. <chuckle> Thanks Jeep.

Happy Hunting!

Nice story! You just never know when you will get forked!

Great finds. It doesn't hurt to get forked once in a while does it.

I hear that Spooning leads to Forking!!! :icon_jokercolor:

So that's where my fork went! Ummm, knowing where it's been... you can keep it! ;D

...and the wise old man said,
"Son, When you come to a Fork in the Road, will you pick it up?"

and so it passed

*sigh* No Spooning going on around here though... or at least I've not found one yet. <laughing> I have found knives before, even a spatula! Talk about an odd thing to digg up while metal detecting. <shrug> Too bad none of it was silver. Stainless is cool, but Silver would have been WAY much cooler!

Happy Hunting~

I've always liked coins, guess it stems from my father dumping pennies on the bed when I was an infant and teaching me to count ( ok.. toddler maybe..) as I put them back into the jar. <shrug> I've never really been a collector or even learned enough to consider myself even moderately knowledgeable about coins.. yet. I mean, after getting hooked on metal detecting two years ago, my interest in coins has taken a turn for the better (as some would see it). I am by no means learned , but I *am* learning. Thanks to all the great people on here at TreasureNet and others I've met since taking up this hobby. So.. bear with me if I seem a but slow, or ignorant about these coins we find. I *AM* slow, and I *AM* ignorant.. but I'm learning. <grin> Thanks again everyone, really I *DO* appreciate all the help and info, and my skin is not so thin that I can't take a little ribbing for my ignorance.

Thanks!

.. and as always..

HAPPY HUNTING~
