They are used on everything from fish to frogs.Gigs have been used at night with boats/lights for spearing gar on inland lakes.

Most of the frog gigs I've seen have at least three prongs.
When you shine the light on the water, only gig the green eyes. Those are frogs. Leave the red eyes alone.

Definitely! I was out one night catching mud minnows for bait in the marsh and got my cast net hung up. I waded out and retrieved it, when I got back to the bank and looked up with my head lamp there were a lot of those red eyes headed my way. If I see that many eyes I,m taking my Forquine frog gig and going home!
I didn't take that picture, but I have seen plenty of them.Red eyes reflecting on the water, have never seen that before in photos. More like the red-eyed army coming to get you.
