Took a trip into northern Florida over the weekend to go fossil diving in the Santa Fe and Suwanee River.. I bring my detector with me everywhere good thing I did there was zero visibility but things turned out pretty good anyway.. World War 1 buttons an old old lock what looks like it could be a world war 1 belt buckle.. Frog legs straight from Lockloosa and venison stew... Lol.. Oh yeah and a hammock in the woods my kind of weekend

Are you going to clean the lock up?
Venison stew I can understand, but frogs!
What do they taste like?
We have plenty of deer here and they can be hunted all year.
Frogs are not so plentiful and I don't know of anyone who eats them here.

They taste a lot like alligator to me...with the texture of crab meat.
Very good actually... I realize it could be off putting for someone not used to that kind of thing.
I will be cleaning the lock.

Mmmmm.... Them frogs are tasty. Give them a try if you get a chance!

This old padlock is getting cooler by the minute

That's looks interesting! How are you cleaning it?

I'm just soaking it in mineral oil to loosen the crust I think that's going to be enough with this.
I don't want to use anything very acidic because of the copper content in the brass

Nice finds GB! I like diving the Santa Fe when it gets low and clear. Will be going for my cavern certification soon at Ginnie springs if anyone else is interested in buddy system.

Thanks guys it was a fun weekend I did stop by Ginnie springs that place was a madhouse I had to get away from there..
On a completely different note I'm totally confused by people flying rebel flags and listening to rap music lol

Strange isn't it? The last time I went there during the summer I had the same feeling. It was chaotic with loud music everywhere. I may wait until winter time actually now that you refresh my memory.

I would

Just wanted to add I was just able to get the back mark off of these buttons it reads steel and Johnson company Waterbury CT.
That help the lot because that company went belly up right after World War one in 1920.
So with this style Eagle starting in 1902 that gives me a nice little window to pretty confidently call these World War 1 era buttons.

Also there is an odd extra ring attached to the back of one of them I didn't mention does anyone have an explanation for this?
