It pays to ask for permission when you see an interesting site! I drove past this old house that was being demolished. After talking to the builder he gave me permission to search the site.the first day of hunting there I found some assorted relics that dated the site to the 1800s.
Today I was there about 2 hours and found an intact Crotal bell and a holed 1817 large cent. I'm sure there is a lot more there and I may get to go there one more time before I leave for a one week vacation. I think when I return the site may be totally different with foundations being dug for 3 houses where there used to be just one. Timing is everything with this type of site. Really nice finds.

I've had my eye on a couple of construction sites lately but haven't approached anyone for permission yet.

Great finds. It does pay to jump on those sites. Next thing you know, conditions change & good finds could be lost forever. I had permission to hunt a site where a road is being widened. Right where this is going on, there was an old schoolhouse in the late 1800's & early 1900's. My hunting partner & myself spent 3 weekends there & were confident we found most of the stuff. He found a Large Cent & Franklin Half. I found a Barber Dime, Barber Half, 5 Wheats & an 1893 Worlds Fair Columbian Exposition Badge. If we would have waited until the 4th week it would have been to late. The tractors were in there, & digging deep. Don't know where they were taking the scraped dirt to, but those finds could have been lost forever.

The first day there I found the outer shell of a broken Crotal bell, a 1918 Wheat Penny and several artifacts from the late 1800s. Oil lamp parts and an interesting scissor sharpener from the Diamond Cutlery company. I googled that and saw advertisements for the company from the 1890s- they were located at 60 Broadway in NYC- prime real estate right near Wall Street. If these old relics could talk- what a story they could tell! That's what makes this hobby so intriguing. Going to try to return there for a couple hours later today after the honey- do list!

Yep that gets you loser to the older stuff! Congrats nice finds!

Got my LC and seated dime from a sidewalk tear out. When they dug up city hall grounds they fenced and posted it no trespassing, all I could was look and drool... Sigh.
