It was a beautiful day in Western NC, too beautiful to stay out of the creek so I decided to go upstream to the spot where I've found a few flakes and shards hoping the rains had washed out a point or two but instead found this pottery. I think it's late Woodland or early Mississippian because they find these types at the Berry Site across town. Also, my cat found a Garter snake that was sunning on the bank, it was about 2 ft long so it was a nice one. We let it live but held it still to get a pic and then let it go and it went swimming on upstream to get away from us but it better watch it's back because there is a huge red tailed hawk that would really enjoy that little tidbit :laughing7:

That is a nice piece of pottery. Thanks for sharing.

Now how did the rest of that pot get in Georgia? :icon_scratch:

It could have been carried, by a swallow! Or maybe that red tail dropped it off. Sorry I couldn't resist. That is a nice piece. I hope you find the rest of it one day.

Look up Lamar Bold Incised pottery, I looked it up in "The Field Guide to Southeastern Pottery" and the description seems to fit the pottery style you have. A very nice find.

I find quite a bit of pottery, but never any that decorative. Nice!

That's a nice piece of pottery Peaches. I have the same breed of cat & we I.D them as tuxedo's up here. Way to go subduing that vicious gartner!

Yes it is and I'm pleased to find it, now for the rest of the pot! They call them tuxedo cats here too. She showed up last year about this time and decided she likes our place better than where she's from. She has a tipped ear and I'm thinking maybe feral, we bonded right away where the other ones coming and going in my field were shy. We named her Crik Kitty because she came to us from the creek. She's always busy hunting and has put a big dent in the rodent population around the shop and house, love that little girl!
