Found on a quick yard hunt tonight. It's in pretty rough shape but no doubt about it. Took a while to carefully clean it up and with a magnifying glass you can clearly read 1858. Doing the happy dance. Thanks for looking. HH.

Yep. A rare coin indeed and one of my faves. Only made 3 years and the first one don't count. :)

Nice!

Yep it sure would. But, good luck with that. (never say die!!) ;)

"1856 small cents sold for as much as $2 by 1859"

Could you all imagine digging an 1856?... that would be sick.

Sweet find BabyBear! I suppose there is probably not enough detail to tell if it's an 8 over a 7...?

Congrats, I'm still looking for my first flying eagle cent metal detecting, I would definitively be very happy finding one.

Awesome!

-Happy Hunting!

Thanks everyone, I'm still grinning!!! MichiganMan while I can easily see the date that's about it not much detail, no 7 that I can tell. When I picked it up out of the hole I thought I had a "fatty" boy was I glad I was wrong. 😃

What a thrill it must have been! Way to go BB!

Amazing coin! Congrats!

Wonderful find! Congratulations.

Thank you for sharing that dig and those pictures

Only one Flying Eagle Cent to my name, but mine you couldn't read the date, just make out Eagle, and the wreath on back.
Great find!!! Be careful, if yuo clean it. I cleaned mine, and screwed it up, so....
