While chasing down a local treasure lead (which we didnt find) which doesnt include gold or silver (but thats another story) we stumbled across this mine. It was capped and sealed by the division of mines and geology (hope i remembered that right) in 2003. You could not even see the little hoist house until about 20-30 yards away. The hoist ,air compressor, ore chute, ore cart tracks were all still there,we also found the large(300-400 lbs) shive wheel that was at the top of the headframe, hidden under some cut branches about 10 yards away, someone must plan on trying to get it out.
Inside the hoist house,is a cool little drum hoist that was run by a 4 cly flat head engine. But the coolest thing was they had cut the back half of a 1953 ? Cadillac off ,then cut a hole in the wall of the hoist house, backed this cadillac up so the frame was in the hoist house, then rigged it to run a Gardner air compressor from Denver connected to the drive train. I popped the hood, the entire engine was still there from the original air cleaner to the glass bulb on the fuel filter, but a pack rat had taken over the engine compartment and it was almost completely covered, sorry didnt get a picture of it. Anyway we didnt find what we were looking for,but had a fun day exploring,,,,and I just cant complain about that
hope ya enjoy the pics !
