NO! I'm NOT kidding! I DID find an abandoned baby in the tot lot of a local park this morning. A toddler.. crawling around on hand and knee, dirty, cold, but with the biggest blue eyes. How sad. I had to pick him up and clean him off some, then wrapped him up to get warm. The little guy never uttered a whimper or even hinted at crying. My God! Who in there right mind would abandon such a cute little guy? It ought to be a crime I tell you!....
This morning started off innocently enough. My second day off of two this week and I was itching bad to get out and get a little MD'g in while the kiddies were in school and the parks are deserted except for early morning joggers and dog walkers. So after getting permission from my darling wife, I headed off to one of the local parks that I've not hit for a few weeks. I had a feeling the soccer field parking areas and the tot lot might have some surprises in store for me. BOY HOWDY! Surprise is right! I went to the tot lot first thing, parking just yards from the woodchips in the shade of a stand of big OLD trees. I geared up and began swinging my d'tector even as I approached the playground. I found two dimes and three pennies before I even got to the woodchips. Head down and ears perked I was paying close attention to the ground and sound and not much else. Here a beep! There a Beep! Everywhere a Beep Beep Beep! I think I'm going to have to get a new set of knee pads, the ones I was wearing this morning got poked full of holes from the woodchips and twigs. Round the baby swings and coming up on the climb and slides I noticed two little pink feet sticking out from under the bottom of the slide. Kneeling down I saw that they (the feet) were attached to a little tot with a pair of green shorts and a little green top. On his hands and knees just staring at me with these HUGE baby blue eyes and this innocent little grin. This little tow headed boy didn't make a sound, just watched me intently. I reached down and gently picked him up and brushed off some of the dirt and woodchips, turning him gently to check for injury. I looked around and saw no mother, or father or grandparent or even a baby sitter anywhere. Not even a baby carriage or a diaper bag! My GOD! How could ANYONE forget their Child, let alone one as cute as this one
Well I decided right there and then that I would adopt the little fella and take him home to be loved and cherished and well cared for. My wife agrees, he's a keeper.. IF we get to keep him that is. So far no one has come forward to claim him.. or to offer any clues as to why he was left behind in the first place. How Sad.
Yes.. we HAD to take pictures of the little guy, as soon as we could. He's Terribly photogenic... see for yourself.

Sorry.. I just HAD to do it.. you might say that the "devil" made me do it. but that's ok, I found redemption later on that morning so I'll be fine. The "baby" was just one of many finds in the tot lot this morning, along with a super ball (remember those?) parts of a flashlight, hair berets , a key, part of a car logo "GE" pull tabs galore! and plenty of clad. LOTS OF NICKELS! Weird!
After sweeping out the woodchips I moved on (scanning back to my truck) to another part of the park. I found several more pull tabs and some clad on the way to my truck even! I tried the parking area (grass and dirt) for one of the soccer pitches and was finding LOTS of pennies and dimes.. with the occasional nickle and quarter thrown in. I was just about to call it a day when I got one last target. It read as a nickel.. I almost didn't even try to dig it up, what with so many pull tabs this morning already I really didn't need another one, but then I reminded myself, "sometimes a nickel is a nickel." So.. I knelt down yet again, swiped my bullseye over the targeted area and sure enough it told me there was something there.. and a strong signal at that. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but often times when I get a "nickel" target on my White's Prizm IV then I get an unusually strong signal from my bullseye, it usually turns out to be a buried aluminum can or "can slaw". So once again I nearly left it be, but I pulled out my probe/digger.. (a smallish steak knife sized utility knife that has a blunted tip but with deeply serrated edge that is handy for cutting small plugs) Anyway, I poke down into the grass a bit and get resistance before I even break the sod. Pulling the grass back I see an unfamiliar glint.. yellow.. shiny..

OH MY GOD! I FOUND GOLD!
My first Honest to Goodness GOLD! In the form of an 18 or 19 inch chain with a crucifix on a gold "square" a little bigger than an average US postage stamp. Yeah.. I checked.. it has a stamp.. both the "charm" and the chain are stamped 14K The crucifix is a "red" or "rose" gold on a yellow gold "charm" or whatever you call it. I sat back on my heels and just stared at it for a bit. Then remembering myself I jumped up and commenced to do the chicken dance! Arms a flapping and head tilted back crowing like the idiot I usually am! <smile> Then I pulled out my cell phone and called my darling wife to tell her that I had found GOLD!
Here it is..
Whew! What a morning! First a baby! Then loads of clad! And Finally GOLD! All in about two and a half hours! Oh I've found larger amounts of clad and coin before and even in less time, but I was happy with today's finds all the same. For a total of 153 coins (not counting other metal targets and pull tabs) for a total of $7.79 Snacks and drinks for the upcoming vacation drive my wife and I will make to Myrtle Beach next week. <smile> With a baby on the dash and a crucifix hanging from the mirror <smile>.
Here's the whole mess (minus the baby) from today.
It's back to work for me in the morning, and I'll be working straight through till Sunday evening.. no more MD'g till MAYBE late Monday evening upon arrival at our hotel in Myrtle Beach SC. Or the next morning perhaps.<shrug> I think I might make it that long.. with my wife's help and support anyway. Happy Hunting all !!!
