I found this old horseshoe approximately 3 ft into the ground as I was sadly digging my old dog's grave yesterday. How old do you think it is? Even if it isn't too old, it's a beautiful reminder of how lucky I am to have had her in my life. 💗

Sorry to hear of your loss
It’s amazing how attached we can get to animals

I,ve buried a few dogs in my time, always thought it unfair that dogs have such a short life compared to their human friends.Nice sentiment on your part to be reminded of her by that horseshoe.

Thank you both. We adopted Bella when she was 12 years old after finding out she was in the shelter for 7 years. We had 3 great years of adventures with her. Unfortunately, she had liver cancer and was in kidney failure. We spent thousands on treatment which gave her 4 more amazing months. Worth every penny. <3 Once my heart heals a little, I'm going to adopt another senior.

If you have some time look up a little statement by George Graham Vest about dogs,I don,t remember the title but it,s a good one.If you can,t find it,post here and I,ll write it out.A man should have a dog, even knowing that in the end you,ll be heartbroken at their loss.

That amount of rust does not develop overnight! But hard to say just how old it is. Sorry about your dog. I lost one fairly recently too and it was hard.

Do a rust removal treatment or just something to stop the rust process, then clear coat the horseshoe and find a picture of your dog and turn the horseshoe into a picture frame or find someone at a craft store to create one out of it.You are a great person to give the senior dogs a loving home for their final years.

Skookian..I'm sorry for your loss. A loved pet is part of the family,
and we hurt when we lose a member of the family; the fact that it was
a dog doesn't make a bit of difference.

I too am sorry for your loss. Regarding the age, please take/post another picture of the horse shoe on a plain background next to a ruler, as I'm trying to see if it has a toe clip and/or caulkins.

Thank you so much, truly. It is sitting in a rust remover solution now and it is recommended to leave it in for 5 days. I'll update with a picture of the cleaned up version alongside a ruler. :)
