Looks like a butterfly or a bumble bee with an unusual back and no inscriptions. About the size of a half dollar, unknown metal type. I posted this recent find in the new finds section, sorry, I'm a newbie to this site but a long time detector.

The emblem shows an "ornate" version of moth.

The attachment-form on the disc's back indicates it is for use on a bolo tie, or on strips of leather for something like a saddle-ornament (in which case it is called a concho). If you are unfamiliar with those objects, google-search the terms "bolo tie" and "concho."

I think you're right on with your assessment, CoilyGirl. Maybe a saddle or bridle ornament as it was found on a former farm. The holes are very small and I am surprised that the delicate attachment is still present. An internet search didn't produce a match but the back was used in vintage bolos. Also, I was somewhat surprised to see, the moth is a frequently used subject matter.

Update:Just saw this exact moth on a Jeopardy question today! It is the trademark signature for Patron Tequila. They package their most expensive Gran Patron Platinum, @ $195.00 a bottle, with a silver plated cork, in a velvet bag secured with a lanyard with the above bronze Bolo. All this and on Cinco de Mayo. Whoda thunk.
