I was in Lake Erie here in Michigan and pulled this nice looking fossil up while chasing a silver signal. Anyone know what this one is?
thanks in advance!
Are drums (the fish) caught in Lake Erie? This appears to be a pharyngeal grinding mill from a drum. The button-like teeth themselves are loosely attached and are typically missing from the bone.

Here's one from Florida:

Fresh-water drum, more commonly known as sheepshead, are in all of the Great Lakes. Probably never find one with a grinder more than 2" long, though.
