Found at a civil war skirmish site.

[DirtyMike]

This might just be a wrench or handle to something but it was found in the middle of nowhere. There has been a good bit of civil war relics found here though. Bullets, buttons, frags, and fuses. If it is just a wrench or handle would anyone know what it was to or for? Thanks for looking. Mike

Looks like a window latch.

Looks like a window latch.

I was thinking the same but it seems to be very large for a window latch and its quite heavy. Maybe if so it was for a large window I guess.

Maybe it's a latch for a stove

Maybe it's a latch for a stove

Never thought of that. That just might be it...

[AKiwi]

A latch for a wagon tail-gate?

[ivan salis]

humm it clearly looks like it "dogs down" or latches something into staying shut and swings open the other way to let it "move" to me --whatever it is.--the hole would be the swing point --there would be a screw of some sort that the item would swing around on to open / close .

[chetler]

Looks like a handle off of an old Pot-Bellied Stove or old wood cook stove...
