The last couple of days I had some time to get out. Most of you know the feeling; "Where am I going this time?" I just decided to hit a regular "old ground" location I've literally pounded to death and I swore I would never go back to. Well, I had a little different strategy this time. Since I had pulled quite a few wheats out some of the ground there, I thought there had to be some more silver underneath. So, I ran in all metal tweaked a bit with my trusty 5" coil and I was quite surprised. I dug some iron and old nails at first then I got an iffy, bouncy signal repeating all over the scale. So I dug it. I'm using a nice shovel in this area so it was a good load of dirt. The merc was in the large plug about 8" into it. Just surprised the heck out me because I know I had been over that exact same location more then once that is for sure. It turned out to be an S mint and I have never found a 1916 one. I then got another bouncy iffy signal a foot over, the same depth and out she came, the buffalo. I shook my head. Next picked up the N.S. Meyer pin, the metal leafy thing and military button. I was very happy. I proceeded to find a few wheats after that but concluded for sure that all metal or relic for sure goes pretty deep. Then yesterday I visited an old park in Tacoma and picked up the 1896 Indian. Still had some time so I sheepishly headed over to this property the owner has given me permission to hunt. I picked up 3 silver coins out of it last fall. I figured, in all metal, maybe I missed something there too. The renters at this old house, seem to always kind of give me the dirty look; like why am I tearing up their grass. I wouldn't even call it grass but rather mowed down weeds and bunch grass, but whatever. When I'm done there you really would never know I was there. Anyway, I found the other two Indian Heads there. So a few old coins around here in two straight days does not happen very often for me. I have tried hunting before in relic mode and you can't use it in certain conditions for sure but I am going to use it now as often as I can and listen more for the deeper targets.

Sweet, More finds in this area. That means mine are coming...

The insignia appears to be an old engineer distinctive unit insignia. I can't find it in the active units, but it may have been a WWII or Korea bound unit.

I found the unit...the 8th Infantry. 1920 - 1950. I have not seen the back of your insignia, but it appears to have the pin clip. That would indicate it is from 1920 to about 1936.

Hey thanks for the info on the pin. And yes, your day is approaching to find some older loot. Here's the deal, find the wheats and then start slowing down, real slow, snails pace, you may have to peel off a layer of junk here and there but it can be rewarding to do so. Happy hunting my friend and I will be looking for your finds!
