While waiting for the weather to cool & the rattlesnakes to go to sleep, I hunted a large U.S. camp yesterday in a hay field where the snakes wouldn’t slip up on me-LOL. I dug this misshaped & broken adult size thin brass ring that is plated with yellow gold inside and out. I have dug a couple of brass rings this size in CW camps before. Larry Hicklen of Middle Tennessee Civil War Relics told me that girlfriends & wives sent a variety of ring types from home with their soldiers. Breezie thinks my ring may even be older than CW period and veteran Oklahoma digger John Freeman said it’s period and he has dug two such brass rings (one gold plated & one silver plated brass ring) from CW camps in his 40 years of detecting. With these 3 friends possessing much CW history knowledge believing the ring is period, I’ll happily add it to one of the display boxes from that camp. HH, Q.
